Due to our desire to initiate a discussion on sustainable urban development in Basel, we came across the Copenhagen-based 'Gehl Architects' during our research. Gehl Architects describe themselves as 'Urban Quality Consultants'. They have played a key role in the development and realisation of the 'people-friendly city of Copenhagen' and, with a focus on pedestrians and cyclists, help cities around the world to achieve sustainable improvements. Partner David Sim taught us the philosophy of the slow city and the human being as its benchmark and centre. This is the goal of Gehl Architects' work around the world.
