When refugee camps become cities
Uli Schmid
ULI SCHMID is an internationally experienced expert for humanitarian operations in planning, logistics management and project implementation. He has worked as a project manager for GIZ in Burundi and as a crisis manager for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in numerous locations, and as a board member of the start-up organisation Innovation & Planning Agency (IPA) in Vienna, together with Kilian Kleinschmidt, he promotes and supports the networking of resources and the potential of modern technologies as a contribution to the professional management of humanitarian crises. He also sees entering into public and commercial partnerships and collaborations as a future-oriented key to efficient crisis management. Since October 2015, he has been advising the Austrian Ministry of the Interior on the current refugee situation, also together with Kilian Kleinschmidt.
Uli Schmid studied law in Tübingen and London and is also a trained industrial mechanic. He has lived in Vienna and Rome since 1999.
