Martina Münch, born in 1964, grew up in Riehen. Graduated from Bäumlihof grammar school in 1983. Studied architecture at ETH Zurich, graduating in 1989. 1989-93 worked as an architect in various architectural firms. Since 1993 in the Planning Office at the Department of Building and Transport, Head of the Urban Transport Design Department. The department is responsible for the development of preliminary projects for public spaces in the city of Basel and the corresponding financial applications to parliament. This means for alleyways, streets and squares. New tram projects, such as the extension to France, are just as much a part of the department's remit as the development of guiding principles and concepts, for example the design concept for Basel's city centre.
