Always follow your nose - chemistry and cultural history of perfume

Andreas Goeke completed his chemistry studies with a doctorate in the field of organic natural product synthesis of jasminoid compounds. Since 1997, he has worked in flavour and fragrance research at Givaudan in Dübendorf near Zurich. In 2005, he was entrusted with setting up a research group in Shanghai, which also led to a close collaboration with Fudan University. Since 2010, he has been head of Discovery Fragrance Research at Givaudan AG, the world's leading fragrance and flavour manufacturer. The main tasks of the research group include the discovery of novel, hedonically appealing and regulatory safe ingredients for perfumery, as well as the design of efficient chemical conversions for their production.
