Ascan Mergenthaler
Ascan Mergenthaler is a Senior Partner at Herzog & de Meuron and is responsible for projects in Europe, Asia, North and South America. He opened the Herzog & de Meuron office in New York in 2001. In the USA, he has managed and realised several renowned projects, including the de Young Museum in San Francisco, the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill on Long Island and the New York City projects Park Avenue Armory and the residential tower 56 Leonard Street. He is currently responsible for major international projects, including the Elbphilharmonie concert hall in Hamburg, the Tate Modern in London, the Luz Cultural Complex in São Paulo, Triangle - an office tower in Paris, and two cultural projects in Hong Kong: the revitalisation of the former Central Police Station and the M+ Museum.
Ascan Mergenthaler was born in Stuttgart in 1969 and studied architecture at the University of Stuttgart and The Bartlett, University College London from 1990 to 1997. Parallel to his studies, he worked for Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Swiss Architecture Museum S AM.
