Stefan Behnisch, Dipl.-Ing. Arch., Hon. FAIA, BDA, born 1957 in Stuttgart, studied philosophy, economics and architecture. He founded his own office in 1989, which has been trading as Behnisch Architekten since 2005. Further offices were established in Los Angeles (1999-2011), Boston (2006) and Munich (2008). Pioneering projects in the field of sustainable construction have been realised in Europe and the USA. Stefan Behnisch has taught at various universities in Europe and the USA, most recently as a visiting professor at the University of Virginia School of Architecture in Charlottesville/USA, at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia/USA, at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPLF)/Switzerland and at the Technical University of Munich. In 2007 he was honoured with the 'Global Award for Sustainable Architecture' and in 2013 with the 'Energy Performance + Architecture Award'. (Photo: Christoph Soeder)
