In the popular Bachletten district, just a few minutes' walk from Pauluskirche and Spalentor, lies Weiherweg. Directly across from Schützenmattpark, we had the opportunity to carry out the core refurbishment of a charming five-and-a-half-room apartment on the eighth floor of a high-rise building from the 1950s. Having aged significantly over the years, the apartment combined design elements from the 1950s and 1980s. Our goal was to create a modern and timeless living atmosphere that aligns with contemporary aesthetics while also showcasing the stunning view over Basel’s rooftops.
A key aspect of the renovation was the redesign of the floor plan. Originally conceived as a four-and-a-half-room apartment, we decided to close the open passage in the living room. Thanks to the generous layout, the rooms can now be used separately, meaning the apartment now offers five enclosed rooms – a clear advantage in times of home office and flexible working.
In addition to the comprehensive (core) refurbishment of walls, ceilings, and floors, the kitchen received a functional and aesthetic upgrade, including a widening of the open entrance. This ensures a seamless connection between the kitchen and dining area. Practical built-in wardrobes in the entrance area provide additional storage space, elegantly integrating a coat rack, washing machine, and dryer. In the master bedroom, we opted for a built-in sideboard below the window front, offering smart storage solutions without dominating the space.
The bathrooms were also modernized, particularly the en-suite bathroom next to the master bedroom. By repositioning a wall, we were able to enlarge the bathroom to accommodate a spacious and comfortable shower area.
Last but not least, all riser pipes (wastewater and water) had to be replaced. Our new piping system was installed all the way to the respective vertical shafts.
