DEEP DIVE – Auseinandersetzung mit Branchen-Themen: Bauindustrie zwischen Politischem Mikromanagement und Europäisierung
Rückblick auf unser Podiumsgespräch im Klybeck Areal am 3. September 2024. Am 3. September 2024 fand im Klybeck Areal ein spannendes Podiumsgespräch statt, das sich mit der Frage beschäftigte, wie die Bauindustrie den Spagat zwischen politischem Mikromanagement und Europäisierung meistern kann. Gastgeberin auf dem Klybeck Areal war Anita Fetz, alt Ständerätin und Verwaltungsrätin der Rhystadt AG. Auf dem Podium waren Hans Peter Wessels, alt Regierungsrat Kanton Basel-Stadt, Gabriela Theus, Geschäftsführerin Immofonds Asset Management AG Zürich sowie Christian W. Blaser, Blaser Architekten Basel. Moderiert wurde das Podium von Manuel Hutter, Verwaltungsrat der Kontur Projektmanagement AG. Anlass für uns, das Gespräch und die Gedanken dieses Abends noch einmal Revue passieren zu lassen...

Die Bauindustrie steht sowohl in der Schweiz als auch in der EU vor tiefgreifenden Veränderungen. Investoren erhöhen den Druck auf Funktionalität, Nachhaltigkeit und Kostensicherheit, während sich die rechtlichen Rahmenbedingungen verschärfen. Ausländische Grossunternehmen drängen auf den Schweizer Markt, während Schweizer Unternehmen versuchen, in der EU Fuss zu fassen. Im Zentrum der Diskussion standen die Entwicklungen und Herausforderungen, die in der Planung zu erwarten sind – sowohl in der Branche als auch auf politischer Ebene. Themen wie ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance), der Fachkräftemangel und strengere Auflagen wurden dabei sowohl als Chancen als auch als Herausforderungen für die Baubranche betrachtet.
Die Verbindlichkeit und Planungssicherheit haben in der Branche abgenommen. Zahlreiche Anforderungen müssen miteinander in Einklang gebracht werden – ESG-Kriterien, Wirtschaftlichkeit, Normen und vieles mehr. Architektur rückt dabei oft in den Hintergrund, während Mikromanagement immer mehr Raum einnimmt. Planer sind zunehmend mit behördlichem “Engineering” konfrontiert, das aufgrund einer Vielzahl von teils widersprüchlichen Regulierungen komplex ist. Die wachsende Geschwindigkeit und Dynamik in der Branche führen zu einem Spannungsfeld zwischen hohen Erwartungen und realistischen Zielen – und dadurch zu einer zunehmenden Komplexität in der Planung.
Um diese Situation erfolgreich zu bewältigen, wurden Partnerschaften als Lösungsstrategie diskutiert. Eine engere Zusammenarbeit zwischen Planern, Eigentümern, Zielgruppen, Städten und der Bevölkerung soll helfen, gemeinsame Lösungen zu finden. Netzwerkarbeit als Lösung also.
Ein Beispiel hierfür sind sogenannte Werkallianzen. Das Dialogverfahren ersetzt dabei das Prinzip des Interessenskonflikts durch das Prinzip des gegenseitigen Vertrauens. Dies beruht auf einem möglichst frühen Austausch zwischen Bauherrschaft, Planern und Unternehmern, bei dem alle Projektbeteiligten von Beginn an gemeinschaftlich eingebunden werden. Ein weiterer Aspekt der Diskussion war das häufig fehlende oder unzureichend wahrgenommene politische Engagement der Planer in der Politik. Ein stärkeres Engagement könnte helfen, die Rahmenbedingungen für die Branche aktiv mitzugestalten und somit langfristig mehr Planungssicherheit zu erreichen.

What actually is... amock-up?Sketches, drawings,floor plans, 3D models - the language used by architectural designers tocommunicate visually is not always easy to understand right away in reality -after all, visualizations often only offer a perspective view and plans, gridsand the like must also be able to be read. And even if digitalization has longsince found its way into the field of construction (planning) and architecture,the implementation of a project and the end result is still a highly analoguematter that involves sensory perception. So what helps to illustrate ideas andpossible projects in the best possible way and to give clients, but also thecontractors, tradespeople and suppliers involved, a comprehensive picture ofwhat the future could look like? Exactly, a mock-up, i.e. a modelrepresentation on a scale of 1:1. The term mock-up has its origins in French(maquette) and means something like preliminary model, sketch or draft.
… How Glazing Systems Sustainably Brighten Spaces In our projects, the use and integration of light always play a central role. Whether in offices, laboratories, or residential spaces, daylight is a crucial factor in both new construction and renovation projects. And for good reason—flooded with natural light, rooms not only create a pleasant atmosphere and a sense of spaciousness but also significantly impact energy efficiency and indoor climate. Last but not least, light and air have been proven to influence human psychology. In the following, we take a closer look at the key aspects of daylight planning from an architectural perspective and how the right glazing systems can enhance daylight supply in interior spaces.
Founded in 2006, the non-profit foundation Architektur Dialoge (AD) aims to raise public awareness about architecture and urban issues while fostering dialogue between the industry and private users. To achieve this, Architektur Dialoge offers a wide range of events on architecture and building culture, inviting the public to learn more through lectures, guided tours, and workshops. One of these offerings is the Making Of series, which provides insights into craftsmanship and architecture. Hosted by Christian W. The topic of green roofs and biodiversity conservation in inner cities has gained increasing importance in recent years and is becoming a key component of sustainable urban planning. As an architectural practice, we regularly engage with this subject, for example through our work on the Stücki Park project on Hochbergstrasse. This provides good reason to take a closer look. In line with our credo “sharing experience”, we aim to gain deeper insights into why urban greening and bird conservation are so important and what role Basel plays in this context. We spoke with two experts on the subject. We begin with Dr. phil. nat. Jean-Pierre Biber from the Advisory Office for Bird Issues, Department for Nature and Landscape Conservation of the Canton of Basel-Stadt.
Efficient, cost-effective and high-quality: our new-build project in Basel/Binningen with prefabricated façade elements. What convinced us... We are currently working on the construction of a new apartment block (MFH) in Basel/Binningen, where we are in the middle of the shell construction and suggested a kind of modular system to the client, more precisely the use of prefabricated façade elements.
We decided to work with ERNE AG Holzbau, which specialises in prefabricated façade systems. Together, we developed a combination of reinforced concrete ceilings with steel columns and non-load-bearing façade elements for our project. The following advantages drove us to pursue this concept:
A key benefit is the time factor: prefabricated façade elements are manufactured in the factory and can then be assembled on site, which significantly reduces the overall construction time. In addition, you are less dependent on favourable weather conditions, as it is more difficult to work in hail, snow or 35 degrees than under weather-independent conditions in the production hall, where the right tools, materials and expertise are always immediately available.

Our new blog format REVISITED takes a retrospective look at completed projects, offering an assessment of architecture as it is lived over time. We begin with a single-family home in Witterswil, completed in 2012. Situated at the edge of the building zone, the one-storey residence was realised as a densification of an existing plot and includes, in addition to the customary living areas, a slightly recessed studio space. The house was originally occupied by a couple to whom we have returned for a visit 13 years after their move-in.
Pinterest, digital mood boards, Instagram, ChatGPT and other AI-powered research tools – the number of digital information platforms is vast, and they’ve become an integral part of our daily workflow.
And yet, our analogue architecture library possesses a unique power of its own. As a tactile archive of architectural history and a source of inspiration for future thinking, it remains a constant presence in our studio – sometimes used more, sometimes less, but always accessible.
