Building trade Vocational School

A new replacement building is intended to optimise the space available at the vocational school for the construction industry and accommodate the rapidly growing number of pupils. The room programme essentially comprises the teaching area, two sports halls, special rooms as well as common rooms and multi-purpose rooms.

The project, developed by the Lindroos Blaser Architekten consortium, places a narrow long building along Limmatstrasse, thereby ensuring a high degree of permeability of the perimeter block development with a publicly accessible courtyard. The basic concept for the room layout is to locate the classrooms and administration rooms on the lower floors, visible from the façade, and to place the gymnasium under the roof. The concrete construction and materialisation as well as the building services are visible throughout the building and are thus intended to promote the trainees' understanding.

The building is designed as a modular construction kit. The structure with load-bearing external walls and a row of columns allows for flexible planning of areas and the associated technical modules. The gymnasiums and the associated cloakrooms are arranged under the roof to maximise column-free use.
